Wood Cock Taxidermy by Reimond Grignon

These birds are called Woodcock. They are one of the most sought after game birds in the northeast. Both sexes look almost exactly alike. They have long bills which are thrust into the ground in search of their favorite food, which is of all things worms. They of course migrate south in the winter when the ground freezes.

Many people spend thousands of dollars a year training dogs to hunt these birds and the ruffed grouse.

The woodcock is popular because he sits tight when a pointing dog "points" the bird. In fact you can almost step on one before he flies. When he takes off, he makes a whistling noise, flies in a cork screw pattern almost straight up before leveling off to bee line it for another place. All this makes the bird very fun to hunt with a dog, but almost impossible to find without a dog.

This year I created this new page just for woodcock so that I can add more pictures of woodcock soon.
